Sometimes God blesses us by allowing our path to cross the path of someone
truly great. Such was the case when I taught school in Balmorhea, Texas.
He was not an actor. He was not a great author. He never appeared on national
T.V. He was a quiet man who lived his life in dignity, integrity, character,
and respect for others. He was the principal of Balmorhea High School. The
students not only loved him but respected him as well. His wife wanted to
take a vacation once and he told me he told her he would take her anywhere
she wanted to go as long as he could be home in the evening to see the sun
set over his West Texas Mountains. A few years ago I received a phone call
telling me he had died of cancer. I attended his funeral. It was at the
gravesite late in the afternoon when an old cowboy stepped up to the grave,
strapped on his guitar, and begin to sing, “Headin’ for the last roundup”.
The sun was beginning to cast it afternoon reflections on the beautiful
West Texas Mountains. It was as he would have wanted it to be. This afghan
is a tribute to the man for whom I had great respect – Jack Hoffman. .
All Afghan designs are completely hand made and each design is produced
only once. Afghans use Swedish Embroidery designs on cotton Monk's
Cloth. Each Afghan is lined on the back with silk and named.
